Below is the process of making the contents page for City Sound. I went with a double page layout as it looked different from other contents pages, generally being on a single page in a list form that I had seen from some research. During producing the contents page, my initial ideas changed throughout after trying various ways of presenting the context with the same chosen layout.
Firstly used the same house font as my magazine's masthead to name the page 'Contents' however, eventually I opted for putting the magazines masthead on it and name the articles within the issue 'Features'. I decided to use two fonts that I have kept to and used throughout producing the cover, contents and DPS. Both are found on www.dafont.com under the names of Heisenberg and Moon Flower. I wanted to use these two fonts throughout the whole productivity and creation of the magazine process to maintain a uniformity and reduce a random bunch of typography that don't compliment each other successfully. I chose to pair Moon Flower - (Sub-Headings and various text) with Heisenberg - (Masthead City Sound Font) because to me they represent an alternative feel which relates well to the genre of music being indie-rock this magazine covers.
At first I began with a plain light grey background to introduce the contents page, but as producing the page continued, I noted that it needed an excitement factor for my TA and be visually interesting and read-worthy. Towards the end of making the contents page I looked back at previous photographs I had taken on my Canon camera and found shots of fireworks. I decided on an image to place behind the main layout which had an almost atmospheric feel to it and then transferred a black and white filter onto it with the use of PhotoShop. All Images featured on the contents page are my own, some are from the 3 main shoots I carried out and others from previous photographs I had taken on my camera which I felt were appropriate and relevant. I chose pictures first to put onto the layout and then wrote associating magazine article features to correspond with and wrote a age number to tie them together for a synergistic link. Having a balance between images and the amount of text on a page can attract readers better, especially my TA being teens/young adults who are generally at the height of their creativity and expressiveness.
With content for page articles, I reflected upon Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and my mood board created for planning. As the appropriate lifestyle psycho-graphic for my target audience are the Aspires, and myself also being within the age range, I understand what people my age are into and would enjoy reading. Therefore, I included articles covering music festivals, fashion, travelling and social media. This way, my audience are well targeted and their materialistic needs are catered for. I also added a feature persuading the readers of City Sound to enter a competition to win tickets to a music festival. By including this, and within the image section putting a buzz word like 'WIN' capitalised and in large; it would generate hype and is good future marketing for City Sound with such opportunities given to my TA. With the sub-headings of the articles, throughout I would use buzz words, along with second personal pronouns like 'Your' and 'You' to create a friendly, realistic and direct address register with the reader, thus achieving an specific engagement with them.
