Below shows the progress of the creation of City Sound's front cover. The front cover was probably the only magazine page I kept my initial ideas towards. On others I adapted the content but kept the layout, however on the front cover I kept to the same layout and creative side to it.
To begin creating City Sound's front cover, I chose one of my favourite images from my first shoot with the main artist. I like the shadowing I created and how, later the black and white filter complimented well with the contrast of the only accent colour on the cover being a dark red. The front cover was the last page of city Sound I created, I wanted to write the article and edit the DPS first to grasp an idea of style for the magazine, and then construct the contents page to create various features and then choose some specific ones for the cover to overall sum up the issue and engage with my target audience and create hype. After I chose the main image, I added the magazine's masthead. I chose black for the masthead as not only did it stand out well and help illustrate the sub-heading lower down the page, but it fitted in successfully with the house colours for typography throughout all of my magazine. Underneath the masthead is 'Your favourite indie-rock magazine' having a personal word like 'Your' suggests that this City Sound is appreciated by dedicated readers.
I then went with the same theme as previously created on other pages, having smaller sub-images being in a Polaroid form, to bring together the genre and nature of the magazine. Essentially, tying new indie-rock music with older British music. This gave a vintage and alternative design to the magazine which I really like. I also think this is a unique way of displaying images. I then added the issue number/date of the magazine copy so that my target audience can keep on track of how relevant the magazine is to the current music scene along with keeping up to date with the issues of City Sound. After I added the anchorage text of the magazine 'Introducing Ophelia' this allows the readers to understand that she is a new artist and may read within to find out more about her with a small description underneath to excite the target audience. I also included the page number so readers could easily go straight to the double page spread.
After, I added more smaller images in the form of Polaroid's to link them to other pages within the magazine. I chose features which are exciting and would really grasp an engagement with the TA. Within puff text I included buzz words to enliven my audience. I chose words such as 'WIN' and 'EXCLUSIVE' to show the luxury of reading these articles and the exclusivity that these articles will only be in this issue of City Sound. This will increase the readership of my magazine.
