Ophelia & Feature Artist
LOCATION: Outside shoot, in a small garden area. Backgrounds within the location varied from a brick background which would be better for the DPS being landscape. Also MCU portrait shots were taken against an ivy bush background showing a more editorial and natural perspective, which would be better for usage on the front cover.
MODELS: Kate Spencer & Samuel Cutbush.
WARDROBE: Black and white clothing which gave the typical feel of a rock artist's clothing well. We added a black Harrington to represent the genre of Ophelia being indie-rock tying old and modern rock together. As Harrington jackets are retro and are also fashionable still now. It shows the relevance of previous trends that have inspired the young generations today by clothing, lifestyle and music.
MAKE-UP: Natural face make-up with a light red lip stick colour. Natural make-up complimented the location well.
HAIR: Styled in a messy ponytail. This showed Ophelia to be edgy and urban relating to type of artist she is, instead of being heavily styled, being neat and formal. The informality of her appearance overall, should represent her as an artist and the register of the magazine, having an informal and laid back purpose to present the content.
PROPS: Prop consisted of using an acoustic guitar. Shows versatility of artist, being a stereotypical indie-rock artist, bolder instruments would be used like an electric guitar. The acoustic guitar also showed a synergising link to the natural theme to the shoot.
OTHER MISE-EN-SCENE INFO: I used my Canon EOS 100D again to capture this shoot. Due to the location and time of the shoot being midday, I had fortunate well lit natural lighting from the sun. This helped encapsulate a positive overall outlook, by creating minimal shadowing. This shoot was more artificially staged than my previous shoots. I gave a brief to my two models to look comfortable yet pose for the shoot. On some shots of Kate alone, I asked her to maintain some serious facial expressions and then contrast it with some more relaxed photographs posing with the guitar prop where she is seen laughing. I wanted there to be a second model (Sam Cutbush) to feature with Ophelia (Kate) to link back to the concept that she is an artist and may collaborate with some artists on her album. Therefore, in some images of both of my models sitting down on the bench, I wanted them to look comfortable with each other to portray a friendly atmosphere. This would excite my TA and any potential City Sound readers who are already familiar with either artist's work. I edited all of my images on Photoshop. Some of the images I added a grey filter and decreased the saturation which reduced the amount of colour to achieve a vintage look. On others I felt a black and white filter suited images well to represent the classic monochrome aspect. This also linked to the wardrobe chosen for my models being black and white, showing a dynamic and sleek feel.
