Ophelia - Editorial
The first shoot for City Sound was a portraiture profile shot. Consisting of Ophelia located against a plain white background. The use of a white room and a white seamless background available to me, benefited me well. With this blank canvas, it allowed me to play around with different looks, accessories and props related to my artist's appearance. During this shoot, I gave two different looks for Ophelia.
First Look
LOCATION: A White Room Studio. Added a simplistic and minimalist view of the shoot. Engaging the attention with the readers to be focusing on Ophelia. The background colour ensured she was the focal point.
MODEL: Kate Spencer (Ophelia)
PROPS: N/A
MAKE-UP: Natural, showing more indie side of Ophelia relating to her music. Nude lips and light eye makeup.
HAIR: Naturally styled and straightened. Purposely messed up in some areas and brought forward into the shot. Messiness could synergise with Ophelia's relaxed personality.
WARDROBE: White shirt layered with further khaki green coloured shirt. Represents her music better linking to British heritage cultured styles (e.g. parkas) Having a shirt instead, in a similar colour puts a modern twist on a vintage look and upon her wardrobe.
OTHER MISE-EN-SCENE INFO: Canon EOS 100D used to photograph. Using a soft box light facing directly in front of the artist captured a natural looking image, complementing her natural complexion and style of this shoot. Camera angles varied from mostly portrait shots and MCUs - good for usage on cover. But experimented with the rule of thirds during some wide close ups being in landscape. Rule of thirds used in some of the last shoots to play with the readers observation of the page, could possibly have text on the side where the subject of the image is not situated.- Would be good for DPS. Serious and almost expressionless facial expression runs throughout whole shoot.

Second Look
LOCATION: Background consisting of a white seamless sheet. Again adding to a simplistic view ensuring Ophelia is the main subject and focal point.
MODEL: Kate Spencer (Ophelia)
PROPS: Occasional flowers to add some femininity to the shoot adding to the USP.
MAKE-UP: Simple make-up, linking to the naturalism of the props.
HAIR: Side parting with all of her hair placed behind her to fully show her face and use of props. Most of the floral props were placed and styled within the artist's hair.
WARDROBE: Elaborate coat worn to add to the feminine brief for the shoot.
OTHER MISE-EN-SCENE INFO: Canon EOS 100D camera used again. Used one soft box light placed at the right hand side of model facing diagonally towards her to highlight one side of her face. When positioning the light like this, in black and white it portrays Ophelia with possible contradictions and contrasting connotations to the femininity of the shoot. Considerably making her look mysterious as half of her face is in shadow where no light is spotlighting her face. Editing some of these pictures in black and white will link to the genre of music better that the magazine and artist focus on being indie-rock normally being a more urban, raw and controversial genre. All shots consisting of Medium Close Ups in portrait form which could therefore easily be used for the front cover and contents as main image features. Body language is very open as she is positioned straight towards the camera, with facial expressions consisting of plain and serious to smiles and laughter.
